Author/photographer Paola Gianturco returns to our GaGa Sisterhood for the third time to talk about her newest book, COOL: Women Leaders Reversing Global Warming. It’s the first book to feature the work of women climate leaders globally.
Paola has documented women’s lives in 62 countries and told their stories in seven books. She is also a grandmother of two granddaughters — both granddaughters have co-authored books with her.
In this new book, Paola and her 14-year-old granddaughter, Avery Sangster interviewed and photographed women activists, politicians, corporate executives, scholars, heads of grassroots groups, and presidents of organizations. They tell their important stories in their own words and suggest things you can do to help them on their existential climate journey.
At our May 15 Zoom meeting, Paola will share stories from her book and suggest ways we and our grandchildren can create a Family Climate Action Plan. All grandmas are welcome to attend our Zoom meeting from 2 – 4 pm PDT. There are 2 ways to RSVP to this meeting:
- Join our GaGa Sisterhood Meetup group and RSVP to the event.
- Send an email to donnedavis@gagasisterhood.com
One hundred percent of the author’s royalties from this book benefit the Women’s Earth Alliance. The organization provides seed money to women around the world who are launching business and non-profit ventures that will help reverse global warming.
Avery, like her grandmother, is used to thinking about global issues. She and her older sister, Alex who co-authored Wonder Girls: Changing Our World, created a children’s program at an annual international poverty conference and led it for seven years. Avery also mobilized her classmates to create an environmental website. In the final chapter of the book, Avery shares her Invitation to Action calling all of us to engage in reversing global warming.
