“Beyond Sixty” Challenges Ageism

Note: Documentary filmmaker Melissa Davey is the speaker for our June 13, 2021, GaGa Sisterhood Zoom meeting. All grandmas are welcome. You can RSVP to the meeting by joining our GaGa Sisterhood Meetup.

Melissa Davey made her first documentary film in 2018 after retiring from a 30-year career in the corporate tech world. Her second act is fueled by a lifelong passion for film and story-telling.

“Beyond Sixty” will change the way you think about aging and the value of your own story. It wasn’t just age that motivated Melissa to change careers and make a film. She also wanted to send a message to her three grandsons.

We are more than grandmothers and we have the strength and power to move forward and accept challenges. A woman’s age is not her story.

Melissa weaves the stories of eight multi-talented women into this inspiring 75-minute film. They show us the power of resilience, defiance, and the wisdom of experience.

Among the inspirational stories revealed in this compelling documentary are the original voice of Siri, the Madam CJ Walker biographer, the sculptor of Lady Gaga’s Fame perfume carriage, and the oldest woman to swim the English Channel in 2016. “Beyond Sixty” defies the belief that our relevance as women has an expiration date.
